Who are the Governing Body?
The governing body at Hugglescote Community Primary school is a group of nine volunteers, plus one Clerk and one Associate. The body includes the following:
Chair to Governors
Vice Chair
Parent governor
Head Teacher
Local Authority governor
Co-opted governors
Staff governor
The governing body holds a full meeting once per term. Additional sub-committee meetings are also held. The sub-committees are:
Resources
Pay
Curriculum and Standards
Roles & Responsibilities
The governors are the strategic leaders of the school. For maintained schools this is reflected in the law, which states that the purpose of maintained school governing bodies is to ‘conduct the school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement at the school.’ The Governing body has three core strategic functions:
1) Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
2) Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff
3) Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
This is achieved by setting targets for the school, ongoing self-evaluation, committee reports and Governing body minutes. All Governors have voting rights in the committees they serve, unless stated otherwise.
Parents Concerns / Complaints
The school is a happy place for staff and pupils for most of the time. However, problems will arise from time to time, and you can expect that these will quickly, sensitively and effectively resolved. The first point of contact is the class teacher followed by the Head Teacher. Governors are unable to resolve concerns themselves as there structured guidelines to follow.
The four stages of the complaints are:
Stage 1 – complaint to staff member
Stage 2 – complaint to head teacher
Stage 3 – complaint to chair governors
Stage 4 – complaint heard by governing body’s complaints appeal
Should you wish to contact the Governing Body this can be done in writing via the school office.
