Getting Ready to Start School
Welcome to Hugglescote Community Primary School!
We are so excited to welcome you and your child into our school family. Starting school is a big step, and we know it can feel both exciting and a little overwhelming. Please know that we are here to support you every step of the way.
Below, we have put together some useful information to help make the transition into school life as smooth as possible for you and your child.
As soon as you receive your Dojo invite, please activate your account as we will be sharing useful information and video of our EYFS environment and routines, including meeting the teachers, lunchtimes, a virtual tour, homework expectations, reading and learning, as well as wrap around care.
We hope you find it helpful, and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We can’t wait to see your child enjoy, learn and achieve with us!
Ready for School?
Starting school can be a very exciting time but it can also be challenging for some children. Small steps make a big difference and families can help to prepare their child for school.
Talking about starting school
Getting your child ready for school is a journey you’ve been preparing for since their birth. We know starting school can be a very exciting time, but it can bring some challenges too. We hope this Leicestershire video, “Talking about starting school”, will help your family on this journey.
A Parents Guide to the EYFS
We have attached a ‘What to expect in the EYFS – a guide for parents’ document. This guide is for parents to help you find out more about your child’s learning and development in the EYFS.
There are suggestions about what your child may be doing, and how you can help them.
It’s important to remember that children develop in different ways and at different rates.
Dinner time
The children have a choice of three different meals each day, which they pre-order in the morning. Please see here for further information and our school lunch menus. Look out for our Dojo video with full details of how our lunchtimes run for our EYFS children.
Healthier Lunchbox
This leaflet provides advice on preparing a healthy lunchbox, including healthier treat options and tips on keeping lunches cool and safe. At Hugglescote, we are a nut free school so please be mindful.
Uniform
This is our Hugglescote uniform

Please refer to our Uniform section of the website for full details of our Hugglescote uniform.
Sweatshirts, cardigans and other items with the school logo may be purchased from Violet Embroidery. This can be done by visiting their website: Violet Embroidery or via telephone: 07716910373 or via email violet.ee@yahoo.com
What your child needs to bring to school each day

School Milk Scheme- Free for children Under 5’s, Subsidised for children over 5’s
Our school provides a milk scheme that is available to all of our pupils and we would like to invite you to register your child. School milk is free for under-5s, and for over-5s it is available at a subsidised price of 31p per day. This can be paid half termly, termly or per academic year.
Each child that registers with Cool Milk will receive a 189ml portion of semi-skimmed milk every day, delivered fresh and chilled to the classroom. Their school milk will not only provide them with essential nutrients, but as it is rehydrating and energy boosting it also bridges the gap between breakfast and lunch to help children stay focused. For more information on how milk can benefit children visit www.coolmilk.com/why-milk-is-great.
*Please note that at the moment the milk scheme is unable to offer milk alternatives. If your child requires an alternative milk such as oat or soya please supply each day/week.
How to register
If your child is under five:
- Register online at www.coolmilk.com ( minimum of 7 days before your child starts school)
- Free milk will continue until the Friday before your child’s fifth birthday. You will receive a payment request four weeks before their birthday – if you wish your child to continue to receive school milk, simply make a payment via your cool milk account.
